Homeless Persons Week 2014

| NEWS

If you visit Melville Plaza regularly and follow us on Facebook you are most certainly aware that we were campaigning to raise donations for Homeless Persons Week from August 4th to the 10th. Homeless Persons Week is an initiative launched by Homelessness Australia and it encourages companies or individuals to run their own events during the week to raise awareness of homelessness and the people it affects. The week also aims to celebrate the work that organisations and individuals do to help those experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

At Melville Plaza the generousity, empathy and compassion from people resulted in many helpful items being donated to centre management. The community came together and direct action was taken to ensure those affected by Homelessness would be helped in a simple, yet meaningful and down to Earth manner. Donations from the community included soaps, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, sleeping bags, deodorants, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pillows, and blankets. An initiative like this truly asks people to think about what essential possessions they would need if the stability of having a home was not an option for them, so this resulted in many additional practical and pragmatic donations.

We would like to wholeheartedly thank each and every person who took the time to be a part of this wonderful initiative and if you would like to continue to help people experiencing homelessness please visit Homeless Connect WA.
