Team Hawaiian walk together to end women’s cancer

| NEWS

Team Hawaiian will be walking for a cause close to their heart when they participate in the Hawaiian Walk for Women’s Cancer, a walk dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research’s Centre (Perkins) on Saturday 6 May.

Together the team of 22 have raised an incredible $67,000 to date, the highest of any corporate team.

Hawaiian CEO Russell Gibbs said Hawaiian’s decision to partner with Perkins was personal as several team members have experienced the trauma of cancer themselves or within their immediate family.

“This walk is very close to home for our team and I’m incredibly proud of their commitment to this great charity event,” Mr Gibbs said.

On Saturday 6 May, the Hawaiian team will join over 500 registered participants on a very special journey across Perth to celebrate the women who have survived cancer, to give courage to the women who are still battling cancer and to remember the mothers, sisters and friends who are no longer with us.

Perkins Director Professor Peter Leedman said he was grateful to have Hawaiian as the event’s naming partner for the second year and he praised Hawaiian’s passion for supporting cutting edge research into women’s cancers.

“Hawaiian is a company that goes the extra mile and becomes truly involved on the ground in the charities it supports,” Professor Leedman said.

“This is an example of what a real partnership between the corporate sector and the not-for-profit sector can achieve, and I am extremely grateful for their support,” Professor Leedman said.

Hawaiian Director Kate O’Hara said she was excited to continue the partnership with Perkins, and looked forward to taking part in the walk.

“By walking with Perkins, we will be helping to bring brilliant minds together right here in Perth to focus on the tough cancers that face women,” Ms O’Hara said.

Hawaiian’s Mezz, Park Centre and Claremont Quarter will all take part in supporting the hundreds of men and women walking to raise funds for Perkins by providing pit stops with refreshments and entertainment to spur on the participants.
